Such a long time...
12.12.04 (5:16 am) [edit]
It's been ages since I've posted over here but I've been using my LiveJournal mainly as I've got several friends who have their own journals. It just makes it easier keeping up with people that way.
If anyone is interested in reading that one, you can find it HERE . It is friends only but if you leave a comment letting me know who you are, I'll be more than happy to add you.
I will still try to post over here but it's hard finding the time to keep two journals.
I found out yesterday that I've won several awards at the Pixie Stick Awards which is very cool and flattering. I really wasn't expecting to win anything as there were so many great authors and fics nominated alongside me. If anyone reading this voted for me, then thank you. I really appreciate it.
Also, earlier this month I found out that my Nathan/Haley fic, 'Good Morning', won two awards at TWA. Again, I wasn't expecting to win anything as I'm so new to the One Tree Hill fandom.
Okay, off to grab a sweater and then something to eat.

Done and dusted!!!
09.23.04 (9:55 am) [edit]
I've finally finished writing 'First Time for Everything'. *breathes a huge sigh of relief* I never thought it would actually happen so I am very relieved as I'm sure are a few other people. *lol*
I've ended up with the final part being A, B, C and D. Yes D! I guess I got a bit carried away. *looks away sheepishly* I'm not totally sure about the final bit of part D and hopefully the girls at RCWW will let me have their honest opinions so I can make any changes if necessary. Once again, I am so grateful to Val and Sarah for coming up with the writing group. It's been such a big help.
Oh, I received a postcard from Vera this morning. She's currently in Lanzarote and (I think) she gets back home this weekend. I've really missed her and I can't wait to hear what she thinks of First Time. I've got a feeling she'll be very surprised to see I've finished it. ;)
I went out with Janet to the shopping center this morning. I didn't buy anything special, just stocked up on toiletries as I was running low on a few things.
Janet's feeling a bit better which is good although she's still having trouble swallowing. She has to pick up another prescription tomorrow as her dosage of penicillin has been increased.
I finally received Embrace's new album the other day and I have to say it is awesome. My favourite song has to be, Gravity, the first single taken from it.
Gravity Honey, it’s been a long time coming and I can’t stop now Such a long time running and I can’t stop now Do you hear my heart beating? Can you hear that sound? Cause I can’t help thinking And I won’t look down
And then I looked up at the sun and I could see The way that gravity turns for you and me And then I looked up at the sky and saw the sun And the way that gravity pulls on everyone On everyone
Baby, it’s been a long time waiting Such a long long time and I can’t stop smiling No I can’t stop now Do you hear my heart beating? Do you hear that sound? Cause I can’t help crying And I won’t look down
And then I looked up at the sun and I could see The way that gravity turns on you and me And then I looked up at the sun and saw the sky And the way that gravity pulls on you and I On you and I
Can you hear my heart beating? Do you hear that sound? Cause I can’t help crying And I won’t look down It's such an awesome song and I definitely recommend it.

Wow!!!
09.11.04 (3:01 am) [edit]
I got such a lovely surprise when I checked my e-mail this morning. I found out that I've been nominated in several categories at the Tangled Web Awards, which is a One Tree Hill fanfic awards site. I am so flattered especially as I've only been writing for that fandom for such a short time.
There were so many cute buttons to choose from but you can see the one I finally decided on if you look over to the right-hand side of the page.
I've also been nominated in a few categories at The Pixie Stick Awards which is also very cool.
The last few days I've been feeling a bit down thanks to the nasty e-mails I've been receiving about my writing so being nominated in two different fandoms has really boosted my confidence and made me more determined to keep writing.
A big thank you to everyone who's nominated me. *hugs*
Speaking of writing, I've just finished another Nathan and Haley one-part fic which you can read here:

This is a little quiz I received in an e-mail this morning which I thought was funny so I figured I'd share it.
[i]We are all Muppets, so .... Which Muppet are you? Ever wondered which Muppet character you are most like? Well, a team of researchers got together and analysed the personalities of Sesame Street and characters, and put the information gathered into this quiz. Answer each question with the answer that most describes you, then add up the points that correspond with your answer. Then send this to all your friends, including the person who sent it to you with your Muppet Character in the subject line. Get a pen and paper because you'll want to keep track of the question number and your answer. You'll need both to unlock the secret code at the end.

You know what you are doing though, and are much in control of your own life. People don't always see things your way, but that doesn't mean that you should do away with your beliefs. Try to remember that your wild spirit can lead to hurting yours!

You have probably been out on the town your share of times, yet you come home with the values that your mother taught you. marriage and children are important to you, but only after you have fun. Don't let the people you please influence you to stray.
[b](27-34 points):[/b] You are ELMO. You are cute, and everyone loves you. You are a best friend that no one takes the chance of losing. [b](35-42 points):[/b] You are KERMIT. You are a lover. Romance, flowers, and wine are all you need to enjoy yourself. You are serious about all commitments. A family person. You call your Mum every Sunday, and never forget a Birthday. Don't let your passion for romance get confused with the real thing.
[b](43-50 points):[/b] You are BERT. You are smart, a real thinker. Every situation is approached with a plan. You are very healthy in mind and body. You teach strong family values. Keep your feet planted in them, but don't overlook a bad situation when it does happen. [/i]
So, last night was the One Tree Hill episode I've been waiting for: Nathan and Haley's first date. The first part of the episode went well but then after the second ad break, they accidentally started showing the part of the epi we'd just seen. You should have heard me cursing and shouting at my television. Not that it was my TV's fault. *lol* Anyway, it was repeated at 1:05 am this morning and...um...yeah, I stayed up and watched it.
The real reason is that I had trouble getting to sleep so as is my usual pattern for when that happens, I turned the TV back on and watched a couple of episodes of Sex and the City (a show that I've never really watched before) and then watched replays of some of the Olympic events from earlier that day before watching OTH again. So far, this ep is definitely my favourite but I know it's going to be topped. :D Anyway, I was still awake at 3 am but must have dropped off for a little while as I woke up at just after 4 am. So, as you can probably imagine, I'm feeling like crap this morning. Ugh!
Hopefully, a shower and some very strong black coffee will help wake me up. I've still got beta-ing to do as well as trying to finish the final part of FD so I need all the help I can get. ;)
Oh, by the way, Majandra's website is now back online with a new layout which I think looks great. It seems to have more personal touches in regard to her art work which just adds something extra special.

Kelly Gets Gold!!!
08.23.04 (11:11 am) [edit]
I was just watching the Women's 800m and Kelly Holmes won the Gold medal. Woo-hoooo!!! She is one of the nicest people ever and having struggled for a long time with various injuries, she so deserves to finally win it, and especially as this is likely to be her last Olympics.
Here's a pic:

It was such a close race that I wasn't sure at first that she'd actually nailed it and it was so cute seeing the look on her face when it was confirmed to her at trackside. :D
Oh, the men's rowing on Saturday was awesome especially as Team GB won Gold there too. We won Gold at Sydney which gave Sir Steven Redgrave his fifth and final medal and now his former team-mate, Matthew Pinsent, has won his fourth Gold in Athens. That was another wickedly close race and I was sure that the Canadians would get it but nope, we did it again!!
Okay, now on to non-sports related stuff...
I finished chapter 9 of the current fic and I'm now working on chapter 10. As I think I've said before, this will hopefully be the last chapter depending on how much I write for it. Ezboard only let's me post 11 or 12 pages at any one time so if I write more than that I'll either try and split it into parts a) and b) or count it as chapter 11. I wasn't planning on having any more smuttiness--c'mon, I'm being serious here, ;) but I've already got another Kyle/Tess bedroom scene in there and I know I'll need to have another one for M&M. That is if I give them a happy ending. *lol*

Busy Busy Busy
08.19.04 (12:01 pm) [edit]
Things have been a little hectic these past few days and I haven't done half of what I've wanted to do. I had the morning to myself though which was nice and after receiving a suggestion from Barbara (HotG92886) regarding how to continue the Naley fic, I ended up writing a third and final part to it. As is often the case with my stories, it's NC-17. Surprise surprise!
You can read the fic here: http://p209.ezboard.com/fonetreehillcentralfr m63.showMessage?topicID=37.topic" title="http://p209.ezboard.com/fonetreehillcentralfr m63.showMessage?topicID=37.topic" target="_blank"http://p209.ezboard.com/fonet...
I also managed to do a little bit more for Chapter 9 of Fate's Deception and I'm hoping to get that chapter done tomorrow if I can.
I'd love to get that fic finished over the weekend so that I can start posting it without any worries. I've already posted three chapters so I need to get a move on if I'm not to fall behind.
Oh,has anyone been watching the Olympics? Is it just me, or do they seem a bit boring this year? I saw a bit of the gymnastics last night which was pretty good and I was watching the swimming heats this afternoon. I'm looking forward to the athletics events. I don't think the Brits are going to do all that well but it would be nice if they surprised us all. ;) We've got a few silver and bronze medals which is something though.
Okay, off to do some more beta-ing.

Good news!
08.16.04 (10:55 am) [edit]
So, I got up this morning and for some odd reason I decided to weigh myself for the first time in a while. I nearly fell off the scales when I saw that I've lost 4lbs. I have to confess that the diet and exercise thing hasn't been going my way for a little while now but knowing that I've lost some weight (and especially without having done anything to achieve that) has given me a real boost. I'm going to get on the exercise machine tonight and do what I can and just take it from there.
I've just finished chapter 8 of the fic and posted it at the writing group. This is a chapter I'm a bit concerned about and hopefully the girls over there will have some suggestions for me. As it stands, it looks like the fic could be done and dusted with just two more chapters. Hopefully, now I'm so close to finishing I won't get stuck with it. It'll be sod's law if I do.
The weather has been so mixed here today. Right now it's raining hard and I've just heard on the radio that we're going to be getting the tail end of Hurricane Bonnie. I'm just hoping it doesn't cause too much damage, if any. I'm definitely happy I don't work in the insurance industry any more. ;)
Oh, I just went over to Amazon.co.uk and saw that they've now got Roswell Season 3 on there so I've pre-ordered it. I wonder if they'll drop the price by a £1 again.

Cute
07.29.04 (9:48 pm) [edit]
A friend of mine just e-mailed me this and I thought it was too cute not to share.
[image]candyspark_5351817 57.jpg[/image]
Awww!!
I feel like I haven't slept for a week. I don't kow what the problem is because at night I do feel tired when I finally hit the sack but as soon as I turn the TV or light off, I'm wide awake and just keep turning over and over trying to get comfortable. In the end I put the TV back on and I think I did get a couple of hours sleep. It's strange how having some background noise can really help.

Good morning!
07.27.04 (9:16 pm) [edit]
I got this e-mail this morning which I thought was pretty funny so I thought I'd share.
6 reasons not to mess with a child A little girl was talking to her teacher about whales. The teacher said it was physically impossible for a whale to swallow a human because even though it was a very large mammal its throat was very small. The little girl stated that Jonah was swallowed by a whale. Irritated, the teacher reiterated that a whale could not swallow a human; it was physically impossible. The little girl said, "When I get to heaven I will ask Jonah". The teacher asked, "What if Jonah went to hell?" The little girl replied, "Then you ask him".
A Sunday school teacher was discussing the Ten Commandments with her five and six year olds. After explaining the commandment to "honor" thy Father and thy Mother, she asked, "Is there a commandment that teaches us how to treat our brothers and sisters?" Without missing a beat one little boy (the oldest of a family) answered, "Thou shall not kill."
The children had all been photographed, and the teacher was trying to persuade them each to buy a copy of the group picture. "Just think how nice it will be to look at it when you are all grown up and say, 'There's Lucy, she's a lawyer,' or 'That's Michael, He's a doctor.' A small voice at the back of the room rang out, "And there's the teacher, she's dead. "
A teacher was giving a lesson on the circulation of the blood. Trying to make the matter clearer, she said, "Now, class, if I stood on my head, the blood, as you know, would run into it, and I would turn red in the face.." "Yes," the class said. "Then why is it that while I am standing upright in the ordinary position the blood doesn't run into my feet?" A little fellow shouted, "Cause your feet ain't empty."
The children were lined up in the cafeteria of a Catholic elementary school for lunch. At the head of the table was a large pile of apples. The nun made a note, and posted on the apple tray: "Take only ONE. God is watching." Moving further along the lunch line, at the other end of the table was a large pile of chocolate chip cookies. A child had written a note, "Take all you want. God is watching the apples."
I finally finished my fic, 'A Professional Relationship', the other day and it's so nice knowing that I only have one unfinished fic on the boards now. I'm going to try from now on not to post anything until it's completely finished but don't hold me to that. ;)
I haven't started the Hawaii challenge fic yet but I've jotted down several ideas for scenes and I'm looking forward to getting that started.
I worked on my Mi/Mar/T threesome fic yesterday and I was surprised at how much I actually got written. The last couple of times I've opened the file on my PC I've ended up closing it without writing anything for it. I'm not sure if I'll end up posting it anywhere though as it's my first time writing slash and I'm not sure if it's any good. I guess I'll just wait and see what happens when I eventually finish it.
Janet's got a half day at work today so we were initially planning on going to see either Spiderman 2 or Shrek but as it's the school holidays we know it's unlikely we're going to find a parking space in the area where it's free. So instead, we're just going shopping to pick up a few bits for my mum and step-dad's anniversary on Friday and will hopefully go and see the movies over the weekend.
Oh, I read on MSN yesterday that Busted are set to play live at the Big Brother 5 final in a couple of weeks time. Apparently, they're the favourite band of one of the male housemates. His friends keep being interviewed saying he's always acting like he's the 'fourth member of Busted'. *lol* I can't wait to see that.
Okay, I guess I'd better get up now.

Challenge
07.24.04 (4:45 am) [edit]
I went shopping this morning with Janet just to stock up on some bits and pieces. I actually had to wake her up this morning which is something I rarely have to do as she's always been an early riser. Maybe the fact that she didn't come home until 3 this morning has something to do with it. That together with the jet lag she's still suffering from has her sparked out on my bed snoring her head off, although she'll deny that last bit.
I read a challenge over at CID this morning which Vera posted and I've decided to have a go at it. I probably shouldn't seeing as I've got unfinished fics I really need to work on, but I've always wanted to write a M&M vacation type fic and as soon as I read the requirements of this one I started to come up with a few ideas for it. I'm not planning on this being some epic story, maybe just a one or two parter and, who knows, maybe it might help me in the long run to continue those other fics.
It's funny 'cos I bought the latest issue of Cosmo this morning and there's a real life story in there which is pretty similar to one of the ideas I thought of for the challenge. Very spooky!!
Anyway, with Janet fast asleep, I might be able to start on the new fic today. :D

She's back!!
07.19.04 (12:33 pm) [edit]
Janet arrived back this afternoon from her two week holiday in Cancun with a gorgeous tan. She had a great time, loved the place and apparently felt like crying on the plane journey back because she wanted to stay out there for longer. Aww!!
My mum collects dolls dressed in the national costume of countries so Janet brought back an authentic Mexican doll which looks really cute. She said it was pretty expensive and it took her a while to find it as the only other dolls they had were Barbie dolls dressed in Mexican outfits. She also brought back some Swiss chocolate for us all to share. Not exactly an authentic Mexican souvenir but nevermind. Chocolate is chocolate. :D
Here are a couple of pics of her showing off her tan.
[image]candyspark_1087686 794.jpg[/image]
[image]candyspark_6933042 96.jpg[/image]
She's now fast asleep trying to get over jetlag and I've been given orders to wake her up tomorrow morning just in case she oversleeps and is late for work.
Yep, she's definitely back.

Confused
07.17.04 (12:17 pm) [edit]
I was going through a couple of my cupboards today trying to do some de-cluttering and I came across the presents and postcard that a certain somebody had sent to me. It made me think about them, something I've tried hard not to do, and I realised just how much I miss talking to them despite everything that happened. It's only since we've stopped chatting on Messenger and e-mailing each other that I've realised just how often we spent doing those things.
Anyway, I was torn between throwing the gifts out and keeping them and in the end I decided to keep them. To stop this from hurting even more than it did at the beginning, I have to believe that those presents were genuine and that our friendship was a real one.
I wasn't sure whether to post about this here or not but I thought it might help make me feel better rather than keep it all bottled up and make me analyze things over and over. That's something I've done way too much of these past few months.
De-cluttering is now done anyway, although I think I've kept more than I've thrown out. I'm such a hoarder.

Finally did it!
07.15.04 (10:54 am) [edit]
I finally watched my Tru Calling tapes today, with the exception of the latest ep, and got all caught up. Amongst the episodes was the one with Devon Gummersall in it and I really liked it. It was sort of weird seeing him playing the bad guy but I did feel sorry for him at the end. It was also kinda weird watching it and knowing that I'd seen him in real life. Still can't believe it. *lol*
I also watched the pilot episode of One Tree Hill and I really enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to the next episode. That was actually on last night but I'll catch the repeat on Sunday evening. I didn't really know anything about this show before I saw it so it was a nice surprise seeing Moira Kelly (from The Cutting Edge) and Craig Sheffer (sp?) in it.
After I saw the pilot, I came online and checked out a couple of the actors on IMdb as they looked familiar. While I was over there I checked out Brendan's profile and message board. Someone posted a question asking if he's still dating What's-her-face as she's been spotted out and about with Shane West and Lance Bass. I had to laugh at the comment about her doing those guys a favour by dating them (or something like that anyway). Brendan's obvious cuteness was also mentioned, of course, in that he's way cuter than those two put together.
While I was having my dinner tonight, I was watching Richard and Judy. For anyone not from the UK, Richard and Judy are a married couple who have their own daytime show from 5 pm to 6 pm. They're both ex-journalists turned presenters and they basically interview celebrities, members of the public, talk about news topics, etc. For the most part they're not too bad except sometimes they can ask the cringiest questions, especially Richard, that leave viewers squirming in their seats. For example, on Monday they interviewed Bill Clinton which was quite a coup for them and one of the questions Richard asked him went something like this:
"When did Hilary let you back into the marital bed after your liaison with Monica?"
I'm sorry but what the f*ck!! You could see Bill's ears turning red and I had to change channels so I never heard his answer.
Anyway, today they interviewed Busted and it wasn't too bad I guess. The worst of it was when Richard started telling the boys about when he used to be in a band when he was younger. As if they give a rat's ass. Even Judy gave him a shove in the ribs and said, "Oh no, not this story again."
The best was a couple of months ago when Richard told Sarah Ferguson (the ex Duchess of York) that he'd love to see her and Prince Andrew remarry. She calmly but firmly put him in his place and told him that she was there to talk about her charity work and not about her private life. He went bright red and started spluttering while trying to kiss her ass. What a joyous occasion that was. *lol*
Just thought I'd post a couple of pics of the boys in honour of their appearance earlier today. Yeah right. ;)

(Pics are from Busted.com
Can't wait for July 26 to arrive. :D

Snagged these from Daph's LJ.
Whos your Busted boy? brought to you by Quizilla
It's gotta be fate, right? *lol*
I've finished all my cleaning now which is a relief and so I've got time to myself again. I'm determined to catch up with Tru Calling - I never did get around to that last week - as well as the Joan of Arcadia discs that Vera sent me a while back. By the time Janet's back next Monday afternoon I want to be all caught up. If I can get some writing done too I'll be even happier. :D
I'm lucky enough to have the E channel and I'm a big fan of those pop culture shows, the ones like 101 Reasons Why The 90s Ruled where they count down the highlights of the decade and have commentaries by celebs, comedians, journalists, etc. Anyway, they had a new one last night - some of which I missed unfortunately - called 101 Most Starlicious Makeovers. I just love the commentaries on these things and I can't remember which makeover they were referring to but I was almost crying with laughter. I can't wait to watch the next one tonight.
Okay, off to get some lunch.

Oh my!!
07.11.04 (10:26 am) [edit]
I cleaned Janet's room for her today and while I did so, I was watching the Capital FM Party in the Park which was being televised. It's an annual outdoor concert that is supported by Capital Radio (my favourite radio station :) ) and the money raised from it goes to The Prince's Trust, a charity created by Prince Charles which helps and encourages young people from the ages of 16-30.
Anyhoo, they have loads of top names involved and I was lucky enough to see Busted on there. They performed four songs: Thunderbirds Are Go, Air Hostess, What I Go To School For and Crashed The Wedding. They sounded awesome and Charlie and Mattie both looked damn good.
Other artists I saw were Anastasia, Will Young, Alanis Morrisette, The Corrs, Sugababes and Nelly Furtado. The concert is actually still going on right now. Unfortunately, I seem to have missed Darren Hayes though. :( I'm dying to hear his new song which I think is out next month.
The reason I haven't watched all of the show is because of the awful presenting that's going on. Geri Haliwell (aka Ginger from the Spice Girls) and Duncan from Blue are presenting along with a couple of other people that no one's ever heard of. I can understand and appreciate that live TV isn't easy but I think they should have hired professional TV presenters who would have done a much better job.
The presenting is so cringe-making especially when these presenters are interviewing some of the artists taking part. I had to change TV channels when one of them asked a member of The Corrs something and the whole band just seemed to not know how to answer. They just kept looking at each other as if to say, "Is this for real?"
The best thing, in my opinion, would be for them to tape the entire event and then edit it so that we just see the actual concert itself and for it to then be broadcast a day or so later.
The interview with Busted wasn't too bad as the guy interviewing them is used to interviewing celebs as he works for MTV. Still wasn't as good as it could have been though.
Okay, that's my rant for the evening. :)

Summer Sun
07.05.04 (11:42 am) [edit]
Janet sent me a text message this morning letting me know that she and the others had arrived in Cancun safely and also that her mobile phone isn't working. She managed to use one of her friends' phones to send the message.
They're about 7 hours behind the UK so when she phoned today it was 8 am there while it was just after 2 pm here. She bought a calling card but the credit was running out pretty quickly so she was only on the phone for about 5 minutes if that.
Apparently, the beach is right in front of the hotel and the place looks beautiful. I knew it would though from various photos I've seen on TV and the net.
At the moment it's around 96 degrees Fahrenheit over there but there's a nice cool breeze blowing. Someone Janet knows who went there a few years ago said the temperature was about 115 degrees when he was there. That's way too hot for me I can tell you.
If I went there it wouldn't matter how much sun cream and sun block I had on, I'd still turn lobster red. Janet is so lucky in that respect as she only has to be in the sun for about 5 minutes for her to turn a lovely golden colour. She obviously takes after my mum (who's Italian) while I take after my dad (who was English). He used to burn and peel like anything.
Actually, Janet is often asked by people who meet her for the first time where she's from as she does have a Mediterranean look about her. I, on the other hand, have a typically pale English look about me. It's strange then that people are always saying I look more like our mum and Jan looks more like our dad.
My mind is wandering all over the place today so ignore my ravings. I'm putting it down to the horrible headache I've got right now. I've got no one to blame but myself though as I knew I should have eaten lunch earlier especially when I started to feel the headache moving in.
My dumbass tendencies obviously kicked in again.

Roswell Season 2 DVD Info
07.04.04 (11:40 am) [edit]
Here's some information I found HERE and HERE about the extras contained on the Season 2 DVD:
The second season of Fox's cult teen drama Roswell will be released on August the 9th.
The set will feature a thirty-minute making of... documentary, Here With Me; and four other featurettes: A Little Something Extra For The Fans; The Art of Composing Roswell; The Shiri and Majandra Show and a storyboard featurette. Three episodes will feature commentary tracks on three episodes: Ask Not (by Executive Producer Ron Moore), A Roswell Christmas Carol (by Executive Producer / writer Jason Katims and Director Patrick Norris) and Cry Your Name (by Ron Moore).
The episodes will be presented in 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen, with Dolby Digital 5.1 audio. RRP for the set is £39.99.
We begin this week as we ended last week, with more information about the UK DVD release of the second season of Fox's cult teen drama Roswell, which is due on August the 9th.
I've now seen the discs, and can clarify what the bonus features actually are. A Little Something Extra For The Fans is a five-minute clips montage showing how some the relationships between the key characters developed. The Storyboard feature is a minute long, and compares storyboards with the finished shots for the episode Wipe Out! The Art of Composing Roswell is, as you might expect, an interview with musician Joe Williams, and this runs for four minutes. The Shiri and Majandra Show is a ten-minute on-the-sofa chat with actresses Shiri Appleby and Majandra Delfino (who played Liz and Maria, respectively). In addition to the commentary tracks, which were listed in last week's News page, the set also includes a DVD trailer for the season one set.
The episodes feature Dolby Digital 5.1 audio at 448kbps. A selection of menu screens, and a shot from the The Shiri and Majandra Show, are available HERE .
I don't know about anyone else, but I can't help finding the extras we're getting a little bit disappointing. I obviously love Majandra and I'm glad she's involved again, but it would be good if some of the other cast members were too. I think you know who I mean. *lol*
Oh well, at least we are getting some extras. I've ordered DVDs in the past where there's nothing at all which sucks.

Ooh! What should I spend it on?
07.01.04 (2:54 am) [edit]
I just checked my e-mail and I saw I'd received one from The Garden Pharmacy, an online store from where I'd bought some tea tree shampoo and conditioner a while ago.
Anyway, I clicked on the message and saw that they've sent me a voucher for...wait for it...a whopping 62 pence. I'm so giddy trying to think of what I should spend it on.
Even if I was to put it towards something, it's not going to make that much difference to the overall cost. I'm not really sure why they bothered.
Just thought I'd share. :D

Review
06.29.04 (8:21 am) [edit]
Okay, here's my review of Runaway Jury.
First off, I'm a huge John Grisham fan (the author of RJ and The Rainmaker, etc) and so I was really excited when I found out they were making a movie of Runaway Jury, and even more so when I discovered that John Cusack was going to be playing one of the main characters.
The screenplay for the movie is actually different to the actual book. The story of the film centers around the gun and firearms industry whereas in the book it centers around the cigarette and tobacco industry.
The change in the story is actually a good one. The movie starts off with a disgruntled former employee shooting dead eleven of his former colleagues, one of whom is a man called Jacob Wood (played by Dylan McDermott), before he shoots himself dead. It then moves forward two years and we find that Jacob's widow is suing the gun industry for their part to play in her husband's death.
Nicholas Easter (John Cusack) ends up on the jury and as the story unfolds we find that he, together with Marley (Rachel Weisz), are planning on selling the verdict to whichever side will pay $10 million for it.
Dustin Hoffman plays the widow's attorney and he desperately wants to win this case which would be a landmark ruling and set a precedent for future litigation. He wants them to finally be accountable for the many people that are killed or seriously injured by their product.
Gene Hackman plays a ruthless jury consultant who will stop at nothing to win these trials and has been doing so for many years.
I personally found the story a little predictable in places but that is probably because I've read the book so many times and knew what was coming. There are a couple of twists though that are very different from the book and they had me on the edge of my seat. Also, the fast pace leading up to the end of the movie worked really well.
It's not a movie I'd buy on DVD as it's not the type I think I'd want to watch over and over like I do with other movies, but it's definitely worth watching if you like legal thrillers.
I have to say that I think the casting in this movie was really good and they all did an awesome job.
So, all in all, I give this a big thumbs up and if I had to rate it out of ten, I'd give it a 8.
On to other things...
I was going to try and do some writing today but I found a link to a Buffy/Angel video on a message board and I had to download it. It's set to My Immortal by Evanescence and it's absolutely beautiful. It's angsty but very moving too. It took almost four hours to download but it was sooo worth it. :D I tell you though, as soon as I'm working again and I can afford it, I'm going to get myself a new PC and get set up on broadband 'cos dial-up really sucks.

Say Anything...
06.28.04 (11:39 pm) [edit]
I had a chat with Zee via AIM on Sunday which was really good. It was so nice talking to another big Buffy/Angel shipper. :D She gave me some links to fanfic sites/boards I hadn't discovered and some of the stories I've read so far are awesome. I'm eternally grateful to her.
I haven't yet started chapter 5 of the new fic and I'm not sure if I'll get the chance today either. I've got to catch up with three weeks worth of Tru Calling before the next episode tonight. If I don't, I can see myself recording ep after ep and then not getting around to watching them. That happened to me with Season 3 or 4 of Angel and so I ended up missing a lot of it rather than watch hours of it on tape. I can't say I'm too sorry as I think a lot of it centered around the whole Angel/Cordy thing which for me sucked big time. Ugh!!
Is it just me or does anyone else get pissed off by other posters on message boards? Something I read yesterday really got me mad but I'd better not write about it over here, not that I think that person reads my blog. I just don't want to get into a total rant this early in the morning. *lol*
I know I haven't reviewed Runaway Jury yet but I will. I will say though that it's an awesome film and John Cusack is great in it. Hmm, I think I might dig out my old Say Anything tape. That's probably my favourite movie of his. :)

That was a bit of a surprise!
06.26.04 (6:34 am) [edit]
I was in Blockbuster this morning and I saw that they finally had R.S.V.P. in there which was pretty cool. The only slight difference was that they'd taken Majandra's picture off the cover which I thought was a shame. There is a small picture of her on the back though. I can't tell you how many times I searched for that movie before I finally decided to buy it from Amazon.com and now I've got it, they have it in there on both video and DVD. That's always the way.
Anyway, Janet and I rented Runaway Jury and Uptown Girls. So far, we've just watched Uptown Girls and will watch the other movie later.
Uptown Girls is a really sweet movie starring Brittany Murphy and Dakota Fanning, this really cute little kid. She was actually in an episode of the last season of Friends. She played Mackenzie, the little girl who meets Joey when he goes to see the house that Monica and Chandler have bought.
Brittany Murphy plays a girl called Molly who is a bit of a party girl but closes herself off from people. Her dad was a famous rock star who was killed along with her mother in a plane crash when she was 8 years old.
Anyway, as a result of her accountant running off with all of her money (as well as his other clients), she finds herself needing a job so she ends up being a nanny to Ray (Dakota's character). She's an 8 year old whose mother (played by Heather Locklear) is a workaholic and whose dad is in a coma after suffering a stroke. She's a very highly strung little girl who seems to have an obsession for cleanliness.
The movie basically follows the friendship that develops between Molly and Ray and I found it very touching in places.
If that's the sort of movie you're interested in, I'd definitely recommend seeing it. And if you're a wuss like me, then make sure you've got some tissues handy. *lol*
I'll come back and review Runaway Jury later on tonight if I can.
In the meantime, here's a little something I found over at daph's LJ which I thought might be fun.
